Welcome to Valparai

Valparai is a little hill town in Coimbatore District, Tamil Nadu, well known for its tea and coffee plantations and picturesque views. The Valparai plateau is nestled among wildlife protected areas on all sides, including the Anamalai Tiger Reserve, Parambikulam Tiger Reserve, and the Vazhachal Reserved Forest. Valparai is also home to some charismatic wildlife such as the Great Hornbill, Asian Elephant, Lion-tailed Macaque, Nilgiri langur, and Purple Frog and many other endemic species found only in the Western Ghats. The sparkling waters of the Naduar and Sholayar rivers course through the 220 square-kilometre landscape, which was converted from tropical rainforests to plantations by British planters between 1890 and 1920. Fortunately, within the tea and coffee plantations nearly fifty rainforest patches remain where many rainforest plants and other wildlife continue to be found. The people in the plantations have also learned to live with the herds of elephants and gaur that have also made this their home. In this ecologically remarkable area, we welcome all tourists to experience, appreciate, respect and conserve the nature that sustains us in a responsible and sensitive manner.
